About Robert
Hi! I'm Robert, a software developer from the United States, currently living in Hull, where I attended university for my master's in advanced computer science.
Though it's been a while since my professional tutoring experience, I love to teach, and regularly tutor people in my family to help them with their homework, as well as helping teach Japanese at my local Japanese language club. I'm highly interested in what helps different people learn best, and think teaching others is among the most meaningful things I can do with my time. Though I don't have a formal background in child education, it appears to me that many school systems end up leaving some students behind by overly standardising their curricula, making the subject matter less accessible to students who learn differently from the majority. One-on-one tutoring provides the luxury of tailoring 100% of the teaching to the student in question, making sure the lessons match their pace exactly.
I also love to programme apps, websites, and video games, and I find that software development is a line of work that exercises surprising creativity. From working carefully with a client to make sure I can deliver exactly what they want (even if that client is me), to meticulously planning a project and choosing the right software tools for the job, to solving interesting and challenging problems related to algorithms and performance, to the satisfaction of completing an exciting, quality product, I find the entire development process very rewarding.

I primarily specialise in programming (C#, C++, Python, Java, Javascript, SQL), but am happy to tutor in school subjects like maths and English as well. Whether you would like help with a school course, help making video games in Unity, or an understanding of creating web applications, I am happy to work with you to figure out what lesson structure will be most helpful to you. I am originally from the United States, where I tutored K-12 students for about 4 years at Dolan Academy in Woodinville (near Seattle). I am happy to tutor children or adults in any subject I am qualified for, and will work patiently with you to help you learn at your own pace. I generally have a flexible schedule, and depending on your learning needs, I can schedule lessons for one or two hours.
