About Marizel
Hi! I’m Marizel
I’m a fourth-year B.Ed Foundation Phase student at Stellenbosch University, and I absolutely love working with learners and finding creative ways to make learning feel a little less like “work”!
Through my studies and practical teaching experience in real classrooms, I’ve learnt that no two learners are the same. What works perfectly for one learner might not work for another, which is why I enjoy finding the explanation, example or activity that finally makes something click.
Afrikaans is my home language, and I am also fluent in English. This is especially helpful when tutoring learners who take Afrikaans as an additional language, as I can comfortably explain tricky Afrikaans concepts in English when needed.
My lessons are friendly, interactive and encouraging. There is no pressure to know everything or get every answer right! I want my learners to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and even saying, “I have absolutely no idea!” — because that gives us the perfect place to start.
I am organised and take my tutoring seriously, but I also believe learning should be enjoyable. Whether we are tackling confusing grammar, preparing for a test, improving reading and comprehension or simply building confidence in Afrikaans, I will meet each learner at their level and work from there.
Most importantly, I want learners to leave our sessions thinking: “Wait… Afrikaans actually makes sense now!”

My approach to tutoring is patient, supportive and learner-centred. I believe that every learner has different strengths, challenges and ways of learning, so I adapt my lessons to suit the individual learner rather than using the same approach for everyone.
As a fourth-year B.Ed Foundation Phase student at Stellenbosch University, I have gained practical classroom experience and understand the importance of creating a learning environment where learners feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. My goal is not only to improve marks, but also to help learners understand Afrikaans and become more confident in using the language.
Afrikaans is my home language, and I am also fluent in English. This allows me to explain Afrikaans concepts in English when necessary, which can be especially helpful for learners who take Afrikaans as a First Additional Language.
Online lessons are interactive and adapted according to the learner’s needs. Depending on what they need support with, we can focus on reading and comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, spelling, writing, language structures, homework, test preparation or areas they find challenging at school. I aim to keep lessons structured but relaxed, with plenty of opportunities to practise and ask questions.
My lessons are suitable for school learners who need additional support with Afrikaans, whether they want to strengthen their foundations, improve their confidence or receive extra help preparing for assessments.
