About Jan

I am a musician, bandleader, producer, and educator. I have been playing trumpet for 15 years and I have been teaching for 5. In 2019 I traveled the world playing on the Norwegian Cruise Line Gem Ship. I was a member of the Kids From Wisconsin Performing troupe for 3 summers in a row, playing and mentoring students from ages 4-18 (2016-18). In college I played in every classical and jazz ensemble possible. The most notable being the Grammy Nominated UW-Eau Claire Jazz Ensemble 1! I also started my own funk bands, jazz combos, and brass quintets that played regularly at local venues.

About the lesson

I believe starting trumpet lessons at a young age is essential. There is a lot of misinformation on how to play the trumpet out there. If I can impact any aged beginning student to realize that the trumpet is not rocket science, I will be happy!! The trumpet should be fun and exciting everyday we pick it up. I also believe if we can develop a habit of taking care of the music every day, the music will eventually take care of us. :)
It all starts with getting the biggest and most beautiful trumpet sound!
Coming from the Bill Adam school of thought, I have been very lucky to have studied from some of the best trumpet players in the world. My goal is to inspire anyone and everyone through music and I strive to pass down the information I've learned to the next generation of trumpet players.
