About Clarisse

My name is Clarisse, I was born in Reims, France but lived my whole life in a little town on a Brittany island. I just moved to the US to be able to live with my husband and 2 cats in the Dallas TX area! I currently speak 3 languages: French (Native), English (Advanced, TOEIC score of 955), Spanish (Intermediate). I am currently trying to learn Mandarin Chinese and actively learning Telugu as well as trying to broaden my knowledge of Spanish and English since learning a language is an ongoing and long-term project. I have a deep understanding of learning a language and know of the difficulties surrounding it as I have been and am a language student myself. I have first discovered my love of teaching through teaching French to my international friends but also to strangers in my school. I have tutored classmates in Spanish and English but also helped them with French (classmates who have dyslexia or people who struggled with grammar, because yes French can be difficult even if it's your mother tongue). In High school, I studied literature and had advanced French classes. In college, I pursued my love of languages with an Applied Foreign Languages Bachelor's Degree. Since then I have tutored many different people of different ages and levels and with different backgrounds and still love meeting new people and sharing my culture and language! About the lesson

Bonjour! Ravie de vous rencontrer cher étranger (Nice to meet you dear stranger!), my name is Clarisse, pronouncing my name is already a test in itself, but do not worry, I'll make it easy. What can you expect BEFORE your first one hour lesson? You can expect a 30 minutes free trial session where: • We will get to know one another • I will assess your level in French face to face • I will ask about your goals and how you learn best What can you expect DURING a lesson? • To find a safe space to practice your accent and exchange (en français s’il vous plaît) • To meet with an encouraging and motivated tutor who really cares about you and will push you gently but surely to reach your goals • Overtime gradual immersion (based on your level), grammar reminders/lessons, fun roleplays, book extracts to practice pronunciation and acquire more vocabulary, exercises (grammaire progressive books, flashcards to practice, sentence making and a full conversation before the end of a lesson) • Games for people (whether adults or teenagers) who learn better in a dynamic environment to encourage spontaneous conversations and associate positive emotions with learning as well as do in lesson small breaks when grammar or vocabulary is overwhelming What can you expect AFTER a lesson • To receive a follow-up email with a PDF containing the notes of the lesson (including what you said and the corrections or alternative ways of saying something) • To receive exercises sheets (from popular and recognized grammar books) and online exercises recommendations (through Kwiziq for example) • To receive articles recommendations and book recommendations (based on your taste using LingQ or other resources that allow you to learn vocabulary gradually and through passive learning) • To receive podcasts, French songs, documentaries, short videos or movie recommendations and a lot of time exercise sheets based on the material I sent. • To know that we can have conversations based on the material you have studied to make it easier for you You will learn new vocabulary more naturally if you speak French often, and that's what I'm here for! With my background in English to French translation and my knowledge of Spanish, I will help you communicate in French, give you the vocabulary to translate what you wish to say in the most accurate way possible and will give you tools to eventually start to think in French too. A typical lesson plan will not be made before I communicate with you about your needs and why you wish to speak French more fluently, so I know where to start and what level of French I can use around you. If you wish to speak to your French friend you won't be using the same language as if you are preparing for an official exam! That's why every lesson is adapted to the individual. Every lesson also starts with greetings in French and with similar sentences we practiced in the last one, to make it easier to learn gradually. I have experience in teaching all levels and all ages. If you are not yet passionate about French I am confident I can show you how rich my language is and make you fall in love with it. Don't hesitate to message me if you have any questions! Perfect! Clarisse teaches French my 12 years old son. Lessons are well organized and reflect my son's needs and topics he enjoys, such as football. Clarisse first met my son and after talking to him, a study plan was made. I really like this approach.

Hubert is a really good kid, it shows he wants to improve his french actively. He's 12 years old but stays focused throughout every lesson and I find it admirable. As for his skills, he's a very good french speaker we are working on his confidence and on developing his thoughts and his overall speech with more vocabulary and more sophisticated words and longer sentences. Every lesson contains a presentation with vocabulary, grammar and conjugation reminders as well as exercices throughout the lesson and I encourage him to show me he understood by creating his own sentences using what he learned. Each lesson ends with a quiz containing all that he learned to see where we need to focus our attention next. I'm happy to be teaching him french !

Clarisse has been teaching French to my 12 year old daughter, I am french myself but my family lives in an english speaking country and so I was not able to keep teaching my daughter and now she doesn't speak french at all anymore which is a shame that's why I contacted her. And from the get go our exchanges were fluid, she was accomodating with the schedule and also generous with her time with sending exercises after lessons and also recommendation of things my daughter could watch and exercises we could do together when she's not in class.
