About Brooks
I am a French teacher who has been tutoring French for over five years. I have a Master's degree in French from Middlebury College and the Sorbonne, which I earned while living in Paris. I specialize in grammar and also have extensive experience teaching speaking, listening, and reading skills.

My greatest strength as a French tutor is that I did not begin to learn French until I was 14 years old. Unlike a native speaker who knows French grammar intuitively, I understand what it's like to learn French from scratch. I had an excellent high school French teacher who emphasized grammar. I have truly been where my students are; I can still remember the tools I used to learn this completely foreign language, and I happily share them with my students. In my own high school experience, I started with a blank slate at 14 and by 16 I placed fourth in the nation on the National French Exam, a grammar-heavy exam given to high school students across the United States. This progress was thanks to the teaching skills of my high school teacher. I have great empathy for my students and strive to meet them where they are. Tutoring is a fantastic opportunity to break down the basics and strengthen any weak areas. When learning a foreign language, the ultimate goal is to create a tapestry woven with vocabulary, grammar, speaking, and listening. In tutoring, we can discover any "holes" in the tapestry and fill them in.
