About Marco

I am a very strong and experienced physical performer alongside having trained in classical acting at the Drama UK accredited Birmingham Royal Conservatoire (BA Hons 2011). Last spring I took part in a 3 month advanced training course on the pedagogy of movement theatre let by master Giovanni Fusetti in Padua, which incredibly deepened and refined my understanding of space and movement, play, connection between emotions and the body, awareness of the pedagogic state as a metaposition between the teacher, the director and the writer within us. It also perfected my understanding of the student/teacher relation and enormously widened the ways I can adapt and carry out a class according to the personality and the needs/goals of the students. 430h of training.

I just came back from a very successful run of "Staged" by Arts Council funded company Circumference which received a Total Theatre Award at this year's Edinburgh Fringe. Staged is an audience-interactive project involving circus and theatre and exploring the fragility of our perceptions as human beings. The show was also part of the Roundhouse CircusFest 2018 at Jacksons Lane.

I was recently employed in an international theatre project in Lisbon, where I had the pleasure to perform alongside Portuguese 2018 Eurovision Song Contest presenter Filomena Cautela. The show LIMBO, directed by Globo De Ouro award winner Sara Carinhas, got greatly acclaimed and will transfer to Teatro Municipal do Porto and tour Portugal later in the fall.

In 2017 I toured the UK and France with renowned mask company Vamos Theatre. Other stage credits include Home Sweet Home (Luxembourg), Ensemble (Lyric Hammersmith), Liberation (Edinburgh fringe,) Lysistrata (Riverside Studios), Leper Colony (Yard Theatre) and Demolition (Southwark Playhouse). I played the villain of episode 9 in ITV series “Jekyll & Hyde”. In 2005, I performed at the Icelandic National Theatre in the award winning show “Þú veist hvernig þetta er” directed by J.P. Eyjólfsson.

I am also training with Stephan Perdekamp in the Perdekamp Emotional Method, I do Roy Hart voice work and I practice capoeira regularly.

About the lesson

Teaching is, without any doubt, one of the most important jobs ever. This might sound a cliche but it is what I really think. With almost 30 years spent as a student to gain two university degrees, I have encountered teachers form all over the world and experienced the most different teaching methods. A teacher can make the difference in a persons life, in a good or in a bad way. A good teacher can be a source of inspiration and can make you love a subject that you would have never imagined you could like otherwise. When teaching the student's benefit is the prime goal, this means that the teacher has to be able to understand what the student needs to access a specific subject, understand it, retain the information and be able to reuse it proactively whenever it is required of him. Since, as a private tutor, I work one on one with a student, I aim at creating a healthy and effective relation where the student feels comfortable to express what he/she doesn't understand and he/she can develop a positive attitude towards learning the subject under examination. Every student is unique, therefore the method used for each student is different. I plan to have a first session where I can assess what it is required of me and whether I am able to constructively interact with the student and then build a teaching program from that. I will commit to plan every session at home and come prepared to teach what is needed and I will expect that the student commits to doing his/her best to do his/her reading and homework.
