About James
Hi! My name is James, and I'm an experienced and prize-winning pianist who is especially keen to help expand pianists' enjoyment of music! I am currently studying at Durham University.
Having started learning piano at the age of 5, I hold 2 Diplomas in Music Performance from Trinity College London, enabling me to help students with the technical, performative and artistic aspects of musical pieces, whilst maintaining a sense of achievement and fun.
As a pianist I have received numerous accolades at various prestigious and international competitions; I also have extensive experience as a tutor, with proven successful exam and competition results from my students.
Having also recently completed A-Levels myself, I am very familiar with the pressure that exams can bring, and so am eager to help reduce the stress and pressure often associated with practical assessments.

I am passionate about helping students understand and succeed with their musical goals. I also understand that the best way to progress is to make learning fun, and so place a strong emphasis on this in my tuition!
I am keen to help learners at all levels expand their enjoyment of music, whether in preparation for practical exams, or whether simply for personal enjoyment. I am happy to help pianists work towards ABRSM graded exams (including higher education diplomas), as well as GCSE/A-Level practical assessments – together we can establish your individual goals, and make you realise you are more capable than you might have at first thought!
I offer trial lessons for free, so whether you want to simply try out piano for the first time, or whether you have experience playing, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
