About Valerie

Hello! My name is Val, and I’m from the south-east of England, near London, with a neutral British English accent. I'm learning Portuguese, so I really understand what learning a new language is like! I have a Trinity CertTESOL qualification and 13 years' experience teaching English. I also have Diplomas in Anatomy, Physiology and Aromatherapy, and years of experience working in many different hospital specialties, so I can also help healthcare professionals with vocabulary and pronunciation. I was previously an Ambassador-level tutor on SuperProf in Portugal, with 26 five-star reviews and 12 positive recommendations. I offer three kinds of lesson at different prices, which can be seen below.

My lessons are informal, friendly and planned to your individual needs, and it’s very rewarding to see my students gain confidence as their English skills improve. I have one rule for my students: don’t worry about making mistakes! Mistakes are just things we haven’t learnt yet :)

About the lesson

My online lessons for adults are informal, friendly and tailored to your individual needs. The focus is on building on your strengths and filling in gaps in your knowledge of grammar and vocabulary.

All lessons are 60 minutes long, and afterwards I send helpful revision notes that I make throughout each lesson (I call these the flashcards). There is a 10% discount for a block booking of 10 lessons, and if these are completed within 12 weeks, the next block will also have 10% discount. I offer three types of lesson (please see detailed fees in the following section):
- One-to-one conversation lessons (50 speaking/10 feedback).
- One-to-one conversation lessons with a self-check vocabulary or grammar exercise as appropriate (50 speaking/10 feedback).
- One-to-one planned general English lessons covering all four skills and tailored to your needs, including preparation of homework. English for healthcare professionals is also available.
