About Matthew
With a musical journey that spans a lifetime, I am excited to share my passion and expertise with you. From the age of 4, I embarked on a musical odyssey that began with the guitar, later exploring the intricacies of the banjo by the time I turned 7. An early highlight in my career came at 9 years old, when I released my inaugural record in collaboration with my father and took center stage on television alongside the legendary Slim Dusty.
The path of music led me to becoming a sought-after session guitarist in Sydney during my early 20s. The opportunity to record alongside esteemed artists such as Troy Cassar-daley, Grace Knight, and others allowed me to develop my craft and expand my horizons within the industry. By this point, I had firmly established my legitimacy and professionalism, earning the trust of fellow musicians and collaborators.
Venturing beyond national borders, I graced international stages with acclaimed Australian artists, including the renowned Gondwana Land. This global exposure enriched my musical sensibilities and broadened my perspective on the power of music to transcend boundaries.
Amidst the performances and collaborations, my love for music has thrived in all its forms. I've nurtured an unwavering affinity for diverse musical styles, continually evolving my skills as a producer. This fusion of experience, versatility, and a keen ear for production places me in a unique position to guide and inspire aspiring musicians like you.

Welcome to my guitar teaching approach, where music becomes a gateway to self-expression and creativity. My methodology revolves around building strong foundations, fostering musical passion, and guiding students to become confident guitar players. Here's how I structure my lessons:

At the heart of every musician's journey lies a solid understanding of music theory. I kick off by introducing fundamental concepts like notes, scales, and rhythm. By laying this theoretical groundwork, my students gain insight into the structure and language of music.
2. Chords and Technique Mastery:
Starting from day one, my students dive into the world of chords. By learning essential open chords such as C, G, and D, they quickly experience the joy of strumming along to their favorite songs. Technique is paramount, and I focus on proper finger placement, hand posture, and efficient chord transitions to ensure a strong musical foundation.
3. Personalized Practice Regimens:
Every student is unique, with distinct learning styles and goals. I tailor practice routines to match their preferences while keeping them engaged. Through chord transition exercises, finger drills, and strumming pattern variations, I help students progress at a pace that's comfortable yet challenging.

Playing familiar songs fuels inspiration and motivates growth. I incorporate easy-to-learn songs that align with the chords and techniques the student has acquired. This bridges theory and practice, making learning an enjoyable and relatable experience.
