About Cristina
I'm Cristina Lester, a full stack software engineer with over 13 years of experience building production applications for companies including Filmhub and Activision. I hold a CareerFoundry Full Stack Web Development certification and a Microsoft UX/UI Design certification, and in my day-to-day work, I regularly mentor junior and mid-level engineers alongside my own projects.
I bring the same rigor to tutoring that I bring to shipping code: sessions are well-prepared, punctual, and focused on a clear outcome, whether that's mastering a concept, finishing a project, or getting interview-ready. I communicate directly, give honest feedback, and adapt my approach to how you actually learn rather than sticking to a fixed script. My goal for every lesson is simple — that you leave understanding something you didn't before, with code you wrote yourself and the confidence to build on it.

Hi, I'm Cristina — a full stack software engineer with over 13 years of professional experience, most recently working as a Senior Full Stack Engineer building production features with React, TypeScript, Next.js, Node.js, and PostgreSQL. Along the way, I've worked at product and entertainment companies of very different shapes and sizes.
I genuinely enjoy sharing what I know and helping people move their careers forward without unnecessary friction is one of the most rewarding parts of this job.
I teach by building real things, which I think is the best way to really learn.
Every lesson is hands-on — we write, break, and fix actual code together rather than just talking about it. I lean heavily on live coding and pair programming because watching someone's thought process (and letting them watch mine, mistakes included) teaches debugging skills no slide deck can. I also teach best practices and real-world problem-solving.
I will show you how to write modular, reusable functions, test as you go, and how to get comfortable with code review (this one is SO important!), since that's most of what your first year on a real team will look like.
I adjust constantly to how each student learns best, whether that means slowing down to build a mental model from scratch or moving fast because someone just needs a second pair of eyes on a gap in their understanding.
A typical lesson starts with a quick check-in on what you built or got stuck on since last time — there's no better teacher than a bug you fought with overnight. From there we set a concrete goal for the session (a feature, a concept, a piece of a project), and I'll demo the approach with real, working code, explaining the "why" behind each decision, not just the "how." Then it's your turn to build it yourself while I guide rather than take over, so you leave having actually done the work. We close with a short code review of what you wrote, and I'll send you a small challenge or resource to reinforce it before we meet again. It's a rhythm, not a script — I adapt it depending on whether we're working through fundamentals, building a project, or getting you interview-ready.
What sets me apart is that I'm not teaching from a textbook — I'm teaching from what I actually use to ship production software, at companies where the code has to hold up under real users and real deadlines. I know how to translate a senior-level habit (clean architecture, functional programming, test-driven development) into something a newer developer can actually apply, not just admire. I also bring a genuine interest in accessibility and thoughtful UX into how I teach front-end work, and because I've been through my own share of technical interviews recently, I can help with the parts of this industry that have nothing to do with writing code: soft skills, portfolio projects, and talking about your work with confidence.
These lessons are for junior developers, career-changers, bootcamp grads, and self-taught coders who are past total beginner territory and ready to build real skill — whether that's your first React app, a portfolio project that will actually impress a hiring manager, or the confidence to walk into your first (or next) technical interview. I mostly teach JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Next.js, and Node.js, along with the surrounding skills — Git, testing, debugging, working with APIs and databases — that turn "I can write code" into "I can build software." If you're just starting to look for your first developer role, or you're a few months into one and want a mentor in your corner, that's exactly who I love working with.
