About Toby-Joe
Hi! I'm Toby. I started playing guitar at 14 and quickly realised what I wanted to do for a living! I love playing blues, jazz, soul, funk and rock. I'm very improvisational in my approach to the guitar, and have a real love of music theory and compositional techniques. My music career has taken me all over the world, playing, writing and singing at festivals across the UK and Europe, on luxury cruise ships, and I do my fair share of studio work as well! Alongside all that I have a passion for sharing my skills and experience, and have regularly taught and mentored musicians of all levels.

I think learning an instrument should be led by what excites you first. If you don't enjoy practising, you won't! That said, techniques and theory can be just as fascinating and fun as playing songs. I was lucky enough to have some amazing tutors and mentors in my formative years, and hope to share the joy of music with others in turn. We can work on a personalised learning plan to set some really fun goals and work towards them. There's no one size fits all approach!

Toby-Joe is an excellent guitar teacher. He really helped me build confidence in my guitar playing and his knowledge of the instrument is incredible. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to learn guitar or improve their skills.
Toby really helped me with my confidence while playing. He was patient and helped me structure my practice while supporting me through things that I was scared of, such as improvising, chord theory and alternate picking. We have been working on our 6-month goal, and I am already seeing progress :) He is friendly and super knowledgeable about guitar technique. He's been such a great teacher.
