About Cliona

I am a passionate teacher and language-learner and thoroughly enjoy helping others to reach their potential. Even if languages are not your favorite subject I will make sure our lessons together are enjoyable and productive.
As an experienced secondary school teacher qualified over 20 years I know the requirements of the Leaving Cert and Junior Cycle exams and what challenges students face with them. My experience of our exam system as a teacher and an examiner means my students get personally-tailored lessons that help them increase their grades as I can show them what examiners are looking for.
As well as being a classroom teacher, I have taught online for many years and have many referrals between friends as well as multiple students from the same families as siblings come to me too. I even have former students as language-teaching colleagues!
I speak both German and French to a native-like level but more importantly I have learned both languages from scratch and still remember what it feels like to be confused. I have been told that I can de-mystify grammar very well and instill confidence in the spoken language in the shyest of students.

About the lesson

Online tutoring is an excellent method of learning a language. I will help you prepare for all your exams, advising you on strategy and memorising techniques for orals, written and listening exams. I can help you understand grammar in a way that makes sense. For Higher Level students I will advise you on what works to increase your grade; for Ordinary Level students I will help your confidence and tell you what you need to know to get your language qualification.

Native speakers or students doing a language outside of school are also welcome.

Lessons are typically 1 hour long using Zoom. We can agree a day and time for a lesson together and lessons can be rebooked without charge with 24 hours' notice.
