About Melissa
I am a former ESL teacher who taught overseas for 3 years in South Korea and Vietnam before taking a position at a local college in the International Education Department. I have always been interested in supporting new immigrants to Canada, and was a volunteer ESL tutor in high school, and most recently with our local literacy organization.
My Masters' thesis focused on supporting ESL students in a small, rural community. Through my research study, I discovered that it's important for language development to coincide with building a learner's "community" in their school and outside in the physical community to best support learning and language acquisition.
