About Sophie

Dedicated & Supportive Tutor | MSc Graduate, PhD Researcher | Helping Students Succeed with Confidence I believe that tutoring is about more than just teaching a subject – it’s about building confidence, fostering curiosity, and helping students reach their full potential. My passion for tutoring comes from my own love of learning and my desire to share that with others. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a student go from feeling unsure to achieving something they didn’t think was possible. I hold an Upper Second-Class Honours Master’s degree in Chemistry and am currently studying for a PhD in Chemistry. Alongside my research, I have mentored lower-year students on my course, helping them develop their understanding and improve their academic performance. My dedication to supporting others was recognised when I was nominated for a prestigious award as an academic representative. I am also a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), ensuring I stay connected with the latest developments in the field. What makes me a great tutor is my ability to explain complex ideas clearly, adapt my teaching style to suit each student, and create a supportive learning environment where questions are encouraged. I take the time to understand how each learner thinks, identify where they might be struggling, and guide them step-by-step until they feel confident. About the lesson

Sessions are 55 minutes
Entry Level 1-3: £27

I offer personalised Functional Skills Maths tuition from Entry Level 1 to Entry Level 3 as well as Level 1 and 2 (Any age that needs to sit these exams), helping learners build confidence, strengthen core skills, and achieve their academic or career goals. My lessons focus on practical, real-life applications of maths, making the content easy to understand and relevant to everyday situations. We cover essential topics such as: Numbers and calculations Fractions, decimals, and percentages Ratio and proportion Measures, shapes, and space Data handling and interpretation Problem-solving strategies I adapt each session to your individual needs, whether you are preparing for an exam, aiming to boost workplace skills, or simply looking to improve your confidence with maths. Lessons are interactive, encouraging questions and step-by-step learning to ensure you understand each concept fully before moving on. I will also do rigorous exam preparation so that you feel confident to ace your exam and get the grade. With clear explanations, targeted practice, and supportive feedback, I will help you progress quickly and feel more confident using maths in study, work, and daily life. Typical lesson structure will involve 1.5 - 2 hours per week of topic learning and guided practice. I will also set a few practice questions for independent study which I will mark prior to the next session. The start of next will then recap on what we did the previous week and then go over the homework that was set.
