About Max
Hi - I'm Max. I've just graduated from Imperial College London with a first-class degree in Chemistry, and before that I took the same exams you're facing now: A* in Chemistry, Maths and Physics at A-Level, top grades at GCSE.
I'll be straight with you: I'm not a career schoolteacher. What I am is someone who sat these exact papers recently - recently enough to remember exactly which topics feel impossible at first, which mark-scheme phrases examiners are actually looking for, and which parts of the course eat your revision time without ever earning you marks. That's the gap I fill. Your teacher covers the syllabus; I show you how the exam actually works.
When I started A-Level Chemistry, I found it genuinely hard. What turned it around wasn't memorising more - it was learning to understand why reactions happen, so that unfamiliar questions (the ones that decide the A*) stopped being frightening. That approach got me my grades and my place at Imperial, and it's exactly what I teach.
Since joining Superprof I've taught 20 students, and I've never dropped below five stars. Have a scroll through what they've said below - then send me a message and let's see if I can do the same for you.

What happens in our first (free) 30 minutes:
Bring a recent paper or test that didn't go well. Before we even meet, send it over and I'll go through it - so instead of a getting-to-know-you chat, you get a diagnosis: whether your marks are being lost to content gaps, application or exam technique. They're three different problems with three different fixes and most tutoring wastes months treating the wrong one.
How ongoing lessons work:
Every session is built around your exam board - AQA, OCR or Edexcel - because they phrase questions differently and reward different things. We work through real past-paper questions together and I don't just tell you the answer: I show you how the mark scheme thinks. Why "explain" needs two linked points and "state" doesn't. Where the predictable marks are that most students hand back. How to structure a 6-marker so the examiner can't not give you the marks.
The topics I spend most of my time on (because they're where grades are actually lost):
— Organic chemistry and mechanisms
— Moles, stoichiometry and titration calculations
— Electrochemistry and redox
— Rates, equilibria and energetics
— Transition metals and periodicity (A-Level)
— Required practicals and how they're examined
Between lessons you'll get the worked solutions from our session plus a short, targeted set of questions on exactly what we covered. No busywork - the point is that next lesson starts from evidence of what stuck.
Who I teach: GCSE (including Combined Science), A-Level and IB Chemistry, plus KS3 students building foundations early. All lessons online, one-to-one.
The first 30 minutes are free so the only thing a message costs you is finding out whether this works. If you send that past paper with your first message, I'll come to our session with a plan already written.

Perfect! My nephew has been having regular chemistry GCSE revision sessions with Max and after just one session he commented that he had "already gone up a grade" with his new understanding of something he wasn't clear on! He was very happy about that. He is loving his lessons with Max, having lots of "light bulb" moments and says that things are explained clearly and methodically and he feels well prepared for his forthcoming GCSE. Max has been flexible and accommodating and I highly recommend him.
- It is great tutoring Shay, he is always eager to learn and engaged.Max's response :
Perfect! Max tutored my younger sister A level chemistry and was incredibly patient. He took the time to go over the more challenging end-of-page questions. His clear explanations made complex topics much easier to understand. Highly recommended for anyone aiming for top grades!
- It is a pleasure tutoring Fatima. I look forward to seeing her progress in the future!Max's response :
Perfect! Max has been a wonderful tutor from the very first trial lesson, comfortable with the subject (a real expert) and establishing an excellent rapport with my son who is aiming for an A* in chemistry (OCR specification A). He was adaptable, easy-going and turned the lessons to suit his student's ability and ambition. Max is a credit to the Superprof platform and is highly recommended to everyone! A*A*A*

Re: Character Reference - Max Rogers
It is with pleasure that I have been asked to provide a character reference for Mr. Max Rogers whom I have known as a family friend, for a period of 5 years.
As a student, Max is hard-working and highly committed to his education, with a curious and questioning mindset . He is a loyal, honest, considerate, and supportive individual who has the ability to see and understand things from another person's perspective.
He is a great communicator and knows how to raise and discuss issues and problems in positive, constructive manner. He is a sensitive and kind individual and is always tuned into how another person might "feel" in a given situation, making him an ideal candidate in terms of tutoring. He has an absolute passion for his subject.
During his studies, Max has been hard working and proactive to earn extra money, working outside of the normal 9-5, whilst always fulfilling deadlines for University.
I know that Max would be a great asset to any workplace that chooses to employ him. He is a fine, well-balanced person with an abundance of positive qualities.
