About Daniel

My name is Daniel Spouge, and I have a deep passion for mathematics. I achieved five grade 9s and five grade 8s at GCSE, A*A*A in Maths, Physics, and Further Maths at A Level, and went on to complete an MSci in Mathematics and Physics at Durham University. This journey has given me a strong understanding of the subject and the challenges that come with learning it. Although maths came quite naturally to me, I know from experience that this isn’t the case for everyone. That’s why I’ve made it my goal to use my knowledge and experience to make maths more accessible and engaging for those who are struggling to connect with the subject. Whether a student’s aim is simply to secure the grade needed to move forward, or to one day pursue a mathematics degree, I tailor my teaching to their individual goals—helping them build understanding, confidence, and a genuine interest in the subject. I’m passionate about making maths not just understandable but exciting. The most rewarding part for me is watching a student’s mindset transform—as concepts click, their confidence grows, and they begin to see themselves as someone who can succeed in maths. Witnessing a student surprise themselves with their own ability is my favourite part of the job.

About the lesson

GCSE Maths can be overwhelming—but with tailored support, it becomes much more manageable. For the past year, I have worked full-time at a secondary school, providing tailored GCSE Maths tuition to over 100 students. I tailor my teaching to each student's unique learning style, creating engaging lessons that cultivate interest and confidence. I combine a patient, supportive approach with a results-driven focus to boost grades and maximise exam performance. Most of my students last year achieved that crucial grade 4 and above, with some improving 2–3 grades throughout the year. Lessons are typically 60 minutes and follow a personalised plan designed to develop understanding, confidence, and exam technique, whilst targeting each student’s individual goals. My preparation process ensures every lesson is purposeful, focused, and tailored from the very first session.
