About Prisca

I’m a teacher who will work with the students and make sure they understand the material that I teach them. I NEVER give up on my students. If students receive a grade they are dissatisfied with, I look at their work and not only give them the correct answer but I tell them where they went wrong and on a separate sheet of paper and give them a step-by-step solution to refer to in case they get a similar problem in the future. I also make an effort to get to know the students and boost their confidence level inside and outside of class.

About the lesson

When it comes to teaching chemistry, I start off by helping students understand the difference between atoms and molecules, definitions of molecular formula, molar mass, then teach them to use those concepts to calculate moles, molecules, percent yield, etc. A typical lesson plan for me is for the student to describe the topics of his/her homework to me. (ex. Organic chemistry R and S conformation) I plan to show the student the steps to determine the highest priority branch on the central carbon and lowest priority, which is based on its position on the periodic table. The highest priority gets a wedge and the lowest priority gets a hashed line. Then R or S is determined by the direction a circle is drawn between the highest priority and the lowest, clockwise (R) and counterclockwise (S). As a tutor, I make sure I go over the material with the student until he/she understands the material that I teach him/her, and I teach that person in a manner that will not confuse them in class or on an exam. When they have presentations, lab papers, etc., I run them through Grammarly or paper rather and get a satisfactory score on the assignment before I tell them it’s okay to hand in. The lessons are mainly for college students in undergrad. I can also teach high school students who are learning chemistry in high school.
