About Lauren
I love the voice, I think it is the most incredible mechanism. Early in my career I struggled with constriction and strain and no matter the exercise I couldn't undo the tension and apprehension my body felt when I went to sing. Through my own desire to have freedom I have researched and attempted so many different approaches and now have a tool bag at your disposal, so you can get there quicker than I did.
Alongside teaching voice, I also work as a professional musician, songwriter and independent artist. L.A Mitchell & as Terrible Sons with my Husband. I also have a passion for using the voice in settings of communal singing for the healing and restorative nature it possesses, I run a non-competitive, non-performing, non-auditioned choir called Just for Joy. I am also currently researching the role of hormones in the voice for understanding the menstrual cycle and its effects on the voice.

I have been teaching and researching voice for over 25 years, currently teaching contemporary voice & songwriting at Canterbury University in NZ.
Lesson's vary from regular training sessions of around 20 minutes - to 60 minute specialist skill sessions where we are exchanging more knowledge and building a self-motivated program for the student to utilize.
- I teach high school students 12 + to adults.
- I specialize in working with pitch issues.
