About Marie
I am from Munich, Germany and I studied Arabic in my BA in Hamburg and comparative literature at SOAS in London. Most of my student life I have been learning Arabic with English and German material and reading and writing between these three languages. During my MA I focused on translation theory and now I'm doing an internship at the Poetry Translation Centre.
I am also an experienced tutor. I used to teach German as an afternoon teacher at a school in Germany. I helped students prepare for their A-levels as well. But most of all I was a student of language for the longest time myself, so I am aware of the struggles of late-night vocabulary sessions and frustrating translation tasks.

Because I’ve been dealing with three quite different languages, Arabic, English and German, for the past 7 years I have an understanding of the structure of language. I focused not on linguistics but on translation theory. For example, through translation of literature and poetry I gained access to Arabic.
