Skimming and scanning: Teach skimming (quickly reading to get the main idea) and scanning (searching for specific information) techniques. These skills are valuable for reading and listening comprehension, especially when dealing with lengthy texts or recordings.
Active reading and listening: Encourage students to engage actively while reading or listening. This can involve highlighting key points, taking notes, or mentally summarizing the information as they progress.
Vocabulary building: Introduce new vocabulary words and expressions from the reading or listening material. Discuss their meanings, usage, and related synonyms or antonyms.
Audio-visual aids: Incorporate visuals, diagrams, or multimedia elements to complement the reading or listening material. Visual aids can enhance understanding and make the content more engaging.
