About Raymond
Hello, I’m Dr. Raymond Young (DipEd, MBA, PhD), a New Zealand-born Chinese educator based in Dunedin. I’m a former business professor at UNSW and Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, and a former CIO at Fujitsu.
Having lived and worked in New Zealand, Australia and China, I’ve seen how much relationships matter—in everyday life and in business. I’ve also experienced the difficulty of learning other languages myself (Chinese, French).
I created EnglishOS because I’m interested in what helps people turn the language they know into conversations that build connections. I enjoy getting to know people, hearing their stories and helping them find ways to express themselves.
My aim is to give you a welcoming place to practice, make mistakes and grow more comfortable speaking as yourself. I want to help you build trust, make local friends and, if you’re in business, develop client relationships that help you close sales.

Do you know some English but often struggle with what to say next?
Perhaps you can introduce yourself and use English for everyday tasks, but find it difficult to keep a conversation going or move beyond small talk. My lessons help you use the English you already have to build friendships and stronger relationships with colleagues and clients.
Inspired by Dale Carnegie’s “How to Win Friends and Influence People”, we practise showing interest, listening carefully and asking questions that encourage others to share. Familiar topics such as work, family, interests and travel give us a starting point.
Knowing enough English to read is different from being able to speak in a live conversation. My approach, EnglishOS, uses repeated practice with different variations. We revisit familiar conversation patterns with new questions, responses and situations, helping you become more comfortable speaking spontaneously.
Each lesson combines guided practice, realistic role-play and feedback. We focus on situations that matter to you, whether you want to get to know new people, connect with colleagues or build trust with clients.
These lessons suit adults who can already hold a simple conversation in English and want to connect more confidently with others. You don’t need perfect English to connect with people.
Small-group lessons with a maximum of four learners give you opportunities to practise with others and receive individual feedback. Each 60-minute class costs NZ$25 per person.

杨教授是我在西交利物浦大学读研时候的系主任。他负责谈判、商业培训等多门课程。他和传统的教授不太一样,他特别擅长发掘学生自身的优势,并且培养学生更加适应社会的思维和能力,兼具学术与实用。
Dr. Young was the department head during my postgraduate studies at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. He was responsible for multiple courses, including negotiation and business training. He stood out from traditional professors as he excelled in identifying students' inherent strengths and fostering their thinking and abilities to better adapt to society. His teaching combined both academic and practical aspects.View more recommendations
