About Andres

I’m Andres, and I like piano lessons to include time for you to listen to your own decisions. If a phrase has become clearer, I may ask which change made the difference before suggesting another adjustment. Was the melody easier to follow? Did a release give the next chord more space? Did the accompaniment become quieter without losing its rhythm? Finding an answer helps you recognize progress that is more useful than simply getting through the page. It also gives us a shared language for discussing what you want the piece to communicate.

When your attention is overloaded, I will help us decide what can wait. A new piece may involve unfamiliar notation, hand positions, rhythm and coordination at once; treating every error as equally urgent makes it difficult to learn anything clearly. We can keep one musical feature intact while reducing another, then rebuild the texture in a sensible order. I will also ask you to show me how you approached the passage at home. If the practice routine itself is causing confusion, changing that routine may be more helpful than adding another exercise to it.

I want you to bring your preferences into the lesson, even before you have the words to explain them fully. A child can tell me that one version sounds heavier or more playful; a teenager can compare two ways of shaping a favorite theme; an adult beginner can ask to hear the difference again without embarrassment. Returning and advanced students can bring established interpretations for us to examine together. We will keep the discussion practical and the next step clear. Over time, I want you to become more comfortable choosing a sound, finding a workable movement and judging whether the two are coming together.

Playing the right notes is only part of making a piano piece clear. We will also decide which sound needs the listener’s attention and how the other sounds can support it. A complete beginner can explore this with a short melody in one hand and a single accompanying note in the other. We can listen to each part separately, choose the balance we want, and put them together in small musical units. You will hear why the melody needs space, instead of simply being told to make one hand louder. Reading, rhythm and keyboard familiarity will grow around music with a clear shape.

If the accompaniment keeps covering the tune, we will give the hands different sound goals before combining them. You might play the melody with its natural rise and fall, then practise the accompaniment at a quiet, even level. When we bring them together, we can pause at the point where the balance changes and check whether the accompanying hand has started matching the melody’s effort. For an intermediate player, this may clarify a flowing left-hand pattern; for an advanced pianist, it might involve bringing out a melody within one hand while keeping the surrounding notes lighter. We will work with comfortable movement and listen to the result, rather than asking you to force a louder sound.

We will treat endings and releases as part of the phrase too. A piece can sound blurred because notes are being held after their musical job has finished, even when every attack is accurate. We can play a short section without pedal, decide which notes need to connect, then introduce pedal while listening for the moment the harmony needs to clear. Returning players can use this to refresh a piece they know, while younger children can begin by comparing a clean finish with a deliberately lingering one. Teenagers and adults can explore the same questions through their chosen repertoire. Between lessons, you will have a small passage, a defined sound goal and a way to check it, so practising means refining the music you intend to make.
