About Laura

I am a recent International Management and Spanish Graduate from the University of Bath. I have extensive experience tutoring English as a foreign language. I have taught in classrooms and privately from students ranging from 3 - 70 years old.

From April - August 2019, I taught in a school in Guatemala. We were helping students to prepare for the Cambridge IELTS English Assessment. I have also worked with adults in Chile as a private tutor. These students were more interested in practicing their speaking skills and knowledge of British culture.

About the lesson

After an initial assessment, I will set out a plan of how our lessons will progress. Together with the student, we will come up with some objectives for the sessions, ie. To achieve a B2 level in my English Assessment, To increase my confidence in speaking English etc. Once we have established the objectives for the tutoring, I will develop a plan for a series of sessions and make it clear for the student what they can expect to cover in each session. Depending on what they would like to focus on they should expect to cover a range of important skills in each lesson from grammar, writing, listening, speaking, and reading skills. I will work closely with the syllabus and content from the exam board if they are working towards an exam. to make sure we are covering relevant material.

When teaching English, I like to make sure students are learning about the culture and current affairs as well. I do this by including activities such as looking at news articles, video clips of recent events, and include these activities into the discussion topics.

I will always ensure that the student is happy with how the sessions are progressing and if they have any changes they would like to make or anything they would like to cover that may have come up in their classes. I will be available by email if they have any questions or would like to request to cover something in their next session.
