About Hannah
Hi future student!
Have you ever felt like your teachers don't fully understand who you are, or have you struggled in class to stay focused, complete assignments, or enjoy yourself? Me too, even though I loved school as a kid, it never came easily to me. I am 23 now, recently graduated from college, and live in Philadelphia. I am studying for the LSAT, the entrance exam to law school.
Because of my experience having ADHD and going through the pandemic, I am particularly attuned to the needs of students these days. Have you ever approached an assignment and thought, "this seems interesting, but I really don't feel like it", or you cannot stay focused long enough to get going on it. Maybe you enter it into ChatGPT or Claude, but you know that is not helping you learn or get better, but simply clicking a box to complete. The world is hard and overwhelming right now, and I am a teacher who will see you, listen to you, and push you to work hard and improve at writing.
Writing is one of the joys of my life. Without great teachers in my life, I would be lost. I want to give that back to students through positive and uplifting instruction that can feel hard to reach right now.

My teaching method requires the active participation of both the student and the instructor. I am also a fitness instructor so I like to incorporate physical learning, as it encodes into the brain stronger. I help students with ideas for writing, development of an essay or assignment for class, spelling and grammar, and reading comprehension. I do not use generative AI and ask that my students do not either. Learning requires commitment to curiosity and being wrong. I ask questions to get my students to think and use their own brain. It is much more rewarding as both the teacher and the student. In a typical 45 minute or hour lesson I begin by a 15 minute warm up, both of the voice and the brain, to establish working rapport. The next 20 minutes usually consists of drills or an activity to promote learning and retention, then the last bit of time we work on the piece of writing, reading it to each other and strategizing ways to be more effective in communicating. Teaching and learning is a dialectic, not a static or rote exercise. While I predominantly tutor and teach English and writing, I am a musician and can teach theory, piano, or voice. I teach students from ages 9-19, and both the material and method is individualized based on the students existing conditions. I have ADHD, so many of my methods are very helpful for students with learning differences, and are tried and true used by myself to graduate with distinction from one of the best universities in the world.
