About Az

Ultimately I'm just a creative with a passion for the arts, I've adored music for as long as I can remember and have pursued it for the best part of my life. Over the years I've collated so much knowledge whilst producing that I've become increasingly eager to share with others. I often find myself attempting to teach friends and family when their interests lie elsewhere, and felt as though it would be more meaningful to teach those who are genuinely passionate about the craft.

Find out more about Az

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I remember when I was a kid, my mum recorded one of the live music channels from the TV using a VHS, There were some classics like shaggy’s it wasn’t me, and I’m like a bird by Nelly Furtardo. One track that I was mesmerised by was Stereophonic - Mr writer, the eerie melodies used to get stuck in my head for days that paired with the spooky visuals of clowns floating in a revolving car on fire inside a snow globe used to scratch a part of my brain I simply couldn’t describe. From there, my love for music was born.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

There’s a selection of artists that I adore and have yet to get sick of, one of which being Jeff Buckley, his musical prowess and raw energy is absolutely astounding, I’ve always loved his vocal performances and have had grace on repeat throughout the years without ever getting bored.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music

I would say the most challenging things that I could teach, of which I believe is something that you never stop learning to do, and that’s a really solid mix down, inclusive of a static mix, utilising plugins that will help you carve and boost frequencies to each element of your song gelling together cohesively, introducing effects to colour your sound and bring character and life to your music, without sacrificing dynamic range, transients, clarity and fidelity.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

Out of the instrument I actually know how to play, for me personally I was say either guitar or vocals, they’re both so intricate and require immense amount of time, dedication, practice and patience. Both of which can be arduous and sometimes painful if done incorrectly or for too long in one session.
  • What are your keys to success?

Persistence, consistency, dedication and time. Hofstadter's Law states "It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter's Law.” And boy is that true.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Jeff Buckley, He has always struck me as a sensitive soul, and I imagine would be well worth having an introspective conversation with over pints.

Thom Yorke, i would be desperate to know what has compelled him to write some the most harrowing and yet beautiful music I’ve ever heard.

Eminem, quite the outlier on this list but I’ve grown up with his music since a boy and he’s genuinely inspire me so much in my own writing, learning about his life and hearing the evolution of his craft was truly a gift.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

If you’re naturally very creative, then I was say surround yourself with like minded people, and don’t let others steer you away from your creative endeavours, I had a lot of people saying whatever I was doing at the time wasn’t good enough, or downplaying the importance of working on your creative endeavours; don’t let them get in your way and get you down. Never stop creating and refining your craft and diminish your expressive nature.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I’m passionate about all aspects, I like that compositional side, I love that more analytical and technical aspects involved with creating music; I enjoy the psychological and physiological effects that music have on our brains; fascinated with the science involved with sound it’s profound impact in can have on us, and what it means to be human.
