About Demi
Hi! I'm Demi, an experienced English tutor and the founder of Learn with Miss Demi. I’m passionate about helping students become more confident, capable, and enthusiastic learners.
Teaching is something I genuinely love because I enjoy getting to know my students and finding what makes them excited to learn. I believe that learning should feel encouraging and rewarding. I always try to bring my personality, creativity, and enthusiasm into my lessons.
Outside of teaching, I’m a big fan of sports and the outdoors. I love rugby and snowboarding, and I’m always happy to talk about sports with my students! I’m also an avid reader and can usually be found with a good book and a cup of coffee when I’m not teaching. I love traveling and meeting people from different cultures, which is one of the reasons I enjoy teaching English to students from all over the world.
I’m a patient, friendly, and encouraging teacher. I want my students to feel comfortable being themselves during our lessons. Whether we're working through a challenging reading passage, practicing English conversation, or celebrating a small breakthrough, I want students to know that their progress matters.

My teaching approach
I believe students learn best when lessons are personalized, encouraging, and adapted to the way they learn best. I don't believe in using the exact same lesson for every student. I take time to understand each student's strengths, challenges, interests, and goals, and then build lessons around them.
For students who need reading and spelling support, I use a structured, multi-sensory approach inspired by the Orton-Gillingham method. This means we don't simply memorize words. We work on the patterns and rules behind English so students can understand why words are read and spelled the way they are. I incorporate phonics, decoding, spelling, vocabulary, reading fluency, and writing into lessons as appropriate.
For English language learners, I adapt lessons to their current level and goals. We work on conversation, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, or overall confidence using English, depending on what the student needs.
What does a typical lesson look like?
Every lesson is different because every student is different, but I generally begin with a short review of previously learned skills before introducing something new. We then practice the new concept together using a combination of visual, auditory, and hands-on activities.
For literacy students, a lesson might include phonics or spelling practice, word building, reading, and a short writing activity. I use games, stories, movement, digital activities, and other engaging materials whenever appropriate to keep students actively involved.
I also make sure students have opportunities to experience success. Building confidence is an important part of learning, especially for students who have struggled academically in the past.
Why Miss Demi?
I don't want students to simply get through their lessons — I want them to understand what they're learning and become more confident, independent learners.
I have a particular passion for helping students who have struggled with traditional approaches to reading and English. I have experience working with students with dyslexia and other literacy challenges, as well as bilingual and multilingual learners.
My goal is to meet students where they are, celebrate their progress, and help them develop skills that they can continue using independently.
Finally, I am sure to include lots of laughs and memories in each lesson.
