About Yamini
I am an MD/MBA student at Boston University, graduating this May, with over eight years of tutoring experience in science, math, and standardized test preparation. Throughout my academic journey, I have worked with students at many different levels, helping them understand challenging material and feel more confident in their abilities. My strong educational foundation allows me to explain complex topics clearly while keeping lessons practical and focused on long-term understanding. I have extensive experience tutoring subjects across the sciences and mathematics, as well as preparing students for high-stakes exams such as the MCAT and USMLE. I focus on teaching core concepts, building strong problem-solving skills, and developing effective study strategies rather than relying on memorization alone. I adapt my teaching style to each student’s needs and learning style, creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making progress. What truly drives my work as a tutor is helping students gain confidence in themselves and their learning process. I understand the pressure that comes with rigorous coursework and competitive exams, and I aim to make sessions both efficient and encouraging. I tutor in a way that focuses on understanding rather than memorization. I know how overwhelming complex subjects can feel, especially in demanding programs, so I spend time breaking things down in a clear and simple way. I explain concepts step by step, use examples, and adjust how I teach based on what works best for each student.
A typical session starts with a check in and review of what has been most challenging during the week. We work through new material together after revising the prior week's material, making sure the basics are solid before moving on. I like to practice questions or problems during the lesson so students can apply what they are learning right away. Occasionally, depending on student preference, we also do teachback of prior concepts. We end by reviewing key takeaways and setting a clear plan for what to focus on next. My tutoring is best suited for undergraduate students, pre med and medical students, and MBA students who want clear explanations, practical study strategies, and support that builds confidence along with real results.
