About Marvin
About Me
With a degree in math and chemistry from Columbia University and over a decade of experience in the tech industry, I bring a unique blend of academic expertise and real-world knowledge to my tutoring. I have tutored over 50 students at various levels, from elementary school to high school, helping them develop a strong foundation in math and science.
In addition to my academic and teaching experience, I have worked for over 10 years in data science, engineering, and product management, including roles at Meta (Facebook). This hands-on experience in tech allows me to show students how the subjects they study apply to real-world challenges, particularly in STEM fields.
Outside of tutoring and tech, I am passionate about martial arts, surfing, and cooking—activities that help me stay balanced and bring creativity and discipline to both my work and teaching. Whether in academics or life, I believe in making learning a fun and engaging process, and I strive to inspire the same excitement in my students.

I draw from my diverse experiences in education, athletics, and the tech world to make concepts relatable and enjoyable. Whether we’re tackling a complex math problem or breaking down a chemistry equation, I use hands-on activities, real-world examples, and creative problem-solving techniques to keep students motivated and curious.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Each lesson is tailored to the individual needs of the student, whether we’re preparing for an upcoming exam, mastering fundamental concepts, or exploring advanced topics. A typical session might start with a brief review of previous lessons, followed by an introduction to new material using interactive examples. We’ll then dive into practice problems, encouraging critical thinking and real-world application. I always leave time for questions and ensure the student has a solid grasp of the material before moving on.

What truly sets me apart is my background in both academia and the tech industry. I know how math and science are applied beyond the classroom, and I integrate that knowledge into my lessons. Having coached a high school robotics team, I understand the importance of teamwork, innovation, and making learning exciting. My goal is not just to help students excel academically but to inspire a love for learning that goes beyond grades.
