About Zachary
A little bit about myself. I was born and raised in a small town in California before moving to New York to complete my education. My background in English is in World Literature where I studied authors outside of the literary canon and critiqued work that is held to a higher academic esteem. After completing my program and publishing my thesis, I found an English Education program at the top rated CUNY for English Education. It is here where I continued to learn more about the English language while learning strategies and techniques to increase every student’s ability to learn.
It is my goal everyday to make the world a better place than it was found this morning. It is this philosophy that I bring into my classroom, my personal life, as well as my professional life.

My approach to designing and creating lessons is to make it both rigorous but engaging. There are often times where the educational setting is monotonous and feels draining. The environment I strive for as an educator is inclusive to all learning styles, all backgrounds and all ideas. Students who need more help with their writing will receive workshops on topics that they are guided into designing. Students that need support with vocabulary will increase their comprehension by writing and using the language they are learning in their everyday lives and in class. Taking what they are interested in and designing lessons based around this while maintaining the next generation of standards has proven to increase retention and leads to language mastery.
When designing lessons, I utilize the UDL guidelines that ensure all of my goals are backed in student learning and engagement.
