About Keva
I am degreed in Communications where I use ALL the skills that most don’t like- Reading, Writing, and Speaking (in front of people). I am a writer, published author, and public speaker. I am also an educator with experience teaching Advanced English (KAP), Regular Academic English (ACA), and Reading Intervention in one of the top school districts in the nation- all on a 7th and 8th grade level.

I have high success percentages working with students below their grade level in reading. Sometimes it takes that one-on-one time building the confidence needed within that student, instead of feeling like he/she is sticking out like a sore thumb in front of an entire class. When the student returns to the classroom, the confidence is on display by participating in class discussions, reading aloud, and in their writing.
Finding out the student’s reading level from day one is crucial so that I have a baseline to work from and track progress. All work is done privately so the student doesn’t feel judged. Targeted skills will be addressed through online programs, worksheets, reading articles, and writing exercises.
It’s quite normal for the average middle schooler to despise English (i.e.- reading). It’s okay! To be honest, I didn’t like it either when I was that age. But it took an English teacher who saw in me what I couldn’t see, and it opened a whole new world for me.
Let’s face it, we cannot navigate life without reading or writing, so let’s take the challenge head on and learn to build better skills, one word at a time.
