About the lesson

Description:

Seasoned tutor with over 3 years of experience helping elementary school students advance and grow academically. Highly skilled at motivating students through positive encouragement and reinforcement.

Successful in helping students develop strong literacy, numeracy, and social learning skills. Can assist with all Elementary and middle school subjects. Also has knowledge in both AP psychology and AP World Religion.

What to Expect:

The first sessions will consist of mainly rapport-building and assessing the student's prior knowledge.

During the process, I will encourage the students to share what they need help with and meet the students in their preferred mode of communication. During the process, we will state the overall goal for the session.

During the second phase, I will give the student an opportunity to attempt each problem. I will use self-assessment or performance-based questions and push through "I don't know" answers and refocus on what they do know. This will then help build an understanding of the student's knowledge.

Once I have been able to assess the student's prior knowledge, we will begin the initial lesson. I will ask questions that help the student articulate his/her thought process and provide hints and support where needed. I will help break down problems and demonstrate alternative ways of solving the problem if the student is struggling.

When the lesson is completed I will then recap with the student and confirm that they understand the topic prior to completing the session. I will have the student demonstrate their mastery and ask metacognition questions to assess confidence.

Personal Background:

Currently attending college for a degree in Childhood education. Worked with an Elementary school for over 2+ years helping with classes of students with learning disorders. I helped with speech therapy and taught all subjects as a teacher's aide. Graduated with a 3.7 GPA and took over 7 different AP classes. Was in the IB program and graduated top 20 in my class.
