About Elise
I have 15 years of experience teaching guitar and hold a Doctorate in Guitar Performance and Music Pedagogy. My expertise spans classical, jazz, contemporary, and improvisational guitar styles, as well as advanced teaching methodologies that cater to learners at all levels.
I focus on providing individualised instruction that combines technical exercises, creative repertoire, improvisational skill, ensemble practice, and performance coaching. My teaching approach emphasises patience, encouragement, and adaptive strategies to help students overcome challenges and develop their unique musical voice.
Beyond teaching, I perform professionally in a variety of settings, attend masterclasses and workshops, and engage in pedagogical research. I am passionate about nurturing expressive, confident, and technically skilled musicians. Supporting learners in discovering their artistic identity and achieving their musical potential is the most rewarding aspect of my work, as I witness their growth both technically and emotionally in each lesson.

Guitar lessons with me are designed to help learners develop comprehensive skills that include technical precision, expressive musicality, and artistic creativity. Each student begins with a thorough evaluation of finger dexterity, chord accuracy, strumming patterns, sight-reading ability, improvisational skill, and overall musicianship. This assessment enables me to craft a lesson plan that addresses both immediate technical needs and long-term creative goals.
Lessons combine exercises such as scales, arpeggios, chord progressions, fingerstyle technique, rhythm training, and repertoire practice that spans multiple genres, including classical, jazz, blues, and contemporary music. I emphasise articulation, dynamics, timing, phrasing, tone quality, and improvisation. Students engage in interactive exercises, ensemble playing, and performance simulations to integrate technique with expressive musical interpretation. Each session is structured to ensure measurable progress, while also nurturing creativity and musical intuition.
Advanced learners work on complex repertoire, composition, solo and ensemble performance, advanced improvisation, and stage preparation. Feedback is continuous, covering tone, musical expression, phrasing, interpretation, and performance confidence. Lessons also include mental practice strategies, recording exercises, and structured performance simulations. My goal is to help students achieve technical mastery, artistic depth, and confidence as performers while fostering a lifelong love for music and self-expression through the guitar.
