About Marcus
"Working with teens, hobbyists, grade exam candidates, and working professionals remains the highlight of my career. I must confess that I often find the most satisfaction in helping a student identify exactly where their technique hit a wall.
Over 13 years of active performance and studio work, I have gathered a deep understanding of the instrument. Having taught 429 students, I recognize that everyone learns at a different pace. I possess a MMus Violin Performance from the Queensland Conservatorium, which provides a rigorous foundation for my approach to music theory and fretboard mechanics.
This academic discipline allows me to simplify complex ideas into accessible concepts for any learner. I prefer to keep my teaching style grounded in physical technique rather than abstract theory. You will find that I provide a clear path toward understanding your instrument, ensuring that the habits you build today support your long-term development on the guitar."

"A structured musical journey begins the moment we complete a thorough diagnostic skills check to build your lesson plan. This evaluation allows me to pinpoint your specific needs regarding scales, modes, or chord transitions before we even start. I use my MMus background to integrate music theory into acoustic technique and reading sheet music naturally. We will systematically refine your strumming patterns and barre chords until they feel like second nature.
My approach balances lead guitar exploration with the foundational discipline of rhythm guitar maintenance. I ensure that every session includes time for tuning and maintenance because instrument care is essential for any serious player. You will receive guidance that moves at a steady, manageable pace while covering everything from basic chord transitions to advanced melodic phrasing.
I draw on my extensive performance history to show you how to apply these technical skills in real world situations. This methodical process provides a solid framework for your growth as a musician."
