About Hazel
With 15 years of professional teaching experience and a Diploma in Advanced Instrumental Performance, I have mentored students with diverse musical goals ranging from personal enrichment to professional performance preparation. My training emphasised technique development, ensemble collaboration, improvisational fluency, and performance psychology.
I believe effective guitar education requires structured progression paired with creative freedom. I design individualised development plans that address each student’s strengths and areas for growth while maintaining consistent technical discipline. Encouragement and detailed guidance are balanced to foster resilience and steady advancement.
Beyond instruction, I remain active in collaborative performance projects and ongoing technical study. Continuous artistic growth enriches my teaching approach and keeps lessons dynamic. Watching students evolve into confident, expressive, and technically skilled guitarists remains the most rewarding aspect of my career.

My guitar lessons are designed to establish strong technical control while encouraging creative musical exploration and stylistic flexibility. I begin by assessing posture, finger strength, picking coordination, rhythm accuracy, and fretboard awareness. Foundational sessions emphasise chord fluency, scale integration, strumming precision, and tonal control. Each technical concept is broken down into manageable components so students clearly understand how technique influences sound quality and expressive range.
As students progress, lessons expand into harmonic theory application, modal improvisation, advanced chord voicing exploration, and stylistic interpretation across genres. Ear training drills enhance pitch recognition and rhythmic consistency, while structured improvisation frameworks foster creativity. Detailed, constructive feedback ensures continuous refinement of articulation, timing, and musical phrasing.
Performance preparation is consistently integrated into instruction. I conduct simulated stage sessions, refine performance posture, and introduce mental focus strategies to enhance composure. Through disciplined rehearsal planning and expressive refinement exercises, students gain confidence and stage presence. My goal is to cultivate guitarists who combine technical mastery with artistic individuality and professional poise.
