About Henry
I have my Bachelor of Music (BM) in Classical Guitar Performance from Northeastern Illinois University. As a student here, I was an active member of the acclaimed jazz ensemble NEIU Varsity Big Band led by trombonist Mayo Tiana (Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder) and was an active member of the Gospel Ensemble. Outside of school, I have had the chance to perform with hip-hop/country/rock/soul bands, classical ensembles, play at numerous jazz festivals, weddings and corporate events, as well as full-scale musical pit bands. As a current faculty member of Chicago's largest community music school (OTSFM) of 4+ years, I am an active and vetted member of the Chicago Teachers Union and maintain regular teacher training and background checks. Altogether, at age 29, I have 10+ years of professional music-school teaching experience; from my first job teaching one-on-one guitar lessons for Ultimate School of Guitar for the Chicago Park Districts, working in music stores like Topher Allen Music and American Music Academy, to teaching in Chicago Public and Private Schools, I have a daily goal to be a better teacher every day.

Currently, my schedule at the Old Town School of Folk Music has me working with children ages 6-12, running teen/adult jazz-rock ensembles, and working with adult professionals either picking up the guitar as a hobby or working out how to build their professional careers in music. Outside of the school, Music Theory Tutoring for collegiate students is a big part of my work. During the pandemic, I worked online with students from top universities like Berklee College of Music, NYU, Columbia College Chicago, and more top Jazz and Classical institutions to meet and exceed learning outcomes in Undergraduate Classical Analysis and Graduate level Jazz theory classes.
