About Maddie

Hello! My name is Madeline (Maddie) Alvendia Johnson, B.A., Ed.M. I am an educator, activist, and lifelong learner based in Oakland, California. I received my B.A. in History from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where I graduated in three years. I received my Ed.M. (Master's in Education) from Harvard University's Graduate School of Education in May 2019. I spent 6 years teaching middle school and high school History, Civics, Government, Social Studies, Ethnic Studies, and AP History. I have experience as a classroom teacher, a private tutor, an online teacher, a conference facilitator, a faculty member for incarcerated students, an equity-team collaborator, curriculum designer, book contributor, and more. I am also the James Madison Memorial Foundation Fellow from the state of Nevada in 2018. I am currently working as an Education Specialist and Admissions Counselor.

About the lesson

I hope to support every student in realizing the power of learning and the impact it can have. I always hope for students to take away the power of their education and the lengths to which it can take them in their lives and bettering themselves as citizens of their society. This is why I tutor and teach; school and learning can transform every area of your life and assist you in understanding yourself, the people around you, and the global workforce you will enter after your schooling years. Knowledge and the excitement to learn will enrich not only your academic coursework and classes, but your life as well.
