About Ekaterina

Hi! I'm Katya, a mathematician and educator who loves helping students actually understand the material.

I have a B.A. in Mathematics (with honors) from Princeton and an M.S. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard, and I was an NSF Graduate Research Fellow. My research has taken me through Harvard, MIT, and Apple, and at 18 I co-discovered an exoplanet. I've taught mathematical modeling as a Teaching Assistant at Harvard, honors real analysis & honors linear algebra at Princeton, and topology at Yale Young Global Scholars.

What I bring to every lesson is the "why" behind the answer. Math and physics aren't collections of formulas to memorize. They're ways of thinking, and once you see the logic, the formulas stop feeling random. I'm also fluent in English and Russian, so I can teach in either language.

What I teach:

Math: arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, precalculus, AP Calculus (AB/BC), linear algebra, and university-level math

Physics: school-level and university physics

SAT & ACT: math, with strategy for pacing and avoiding common traps

English: reading comprehension, writing, essays, and grammar

Russian: for beginners through advanced learners, including heritage speakers

Other: university placement tests and college application support

About the lesson

How I teach:

I start with a short diagnostic so we know exactly where you are and where the gaps are. From there I build a plan around your goals, whether that's a perfect SAT score, catching up in class, or getting ready for university. I break big, multi-step problems into pieces you can handle, and I'm patient about questions. There's no such thing as a dumb one.

When you work with me, you get:

A personalized plan built around your goals and how you learn

Test strategy that teaches you to think like the test writer

Real progress with a clear path from your first lesson to your goal

A supportive tutor who makes hard topics feel manageable

Ready to get started? Book a trial lesson and let's figure out the best plan for you!
