About Caitlyn

I'm the most unconventional tutor ever.

I'm cool, I'm fun, I'm friendly, and I'm exciting.

No I'm not an expert. And yeah I'm probably the laziest student out there. But I get good results and I keep up with my peers and surpass them.

If I knew the things I know now in my first and second year of uni... I'd probably have a full ride scholarship for masters now... Actually, I'd probably be doing my PhD by now...

Let me cut all the bullshit navigation away for you.

I want to teach because I had to figure this stuff out on my own. And it was hard! I almost gave up! And all my potential and contribution to the mental health industry would have been wasted.

We need psychologists!
We need counsellors!
We need mental health professionals!
We need researchers and advocates!
Policy makers!
The works!
Now more than ever!

I can help you get there!!!

With a degree in psychology I've already done all the hard work you're attempting to undertake. I have a deep understanding of learning styles and cognition, because, yep, you guessed it, they teach you it in psychology!
I'll tell you a secret... Institutionalised learning is ineffective! There's so much evidence to prove this, but yet they still still do it this way!
I can teach you the easy way. I can teach you how to learn your own way! The way that will work for you! Not the way they expect you to...
Wondering why you're failing?
Because they designed it that way!

I fell through the cracks of institutionalised learning for most of my life. I struggled and then something just clicked! And now I'm a rock star uni student... Here is my journey and story...

Little bit of personal self-disclosure here... I'm not your therapist so it doesn't matter in this instance...

I am severely dyslexic and I also have autism spectrum disorder. Before you say, ASD don't pick up on emotional cues, they have bad interpersonal skills, and can't make eye contact how the hell you ever going to be a therapist?...
Yes, those aspects can be traits for some people... but they call it a spectrum for a reason... and some of us are super sensitive to emotional cues of others, and some of us got into trouble for TOO much eye contact... so yeah I'm one of those ones... hence I do really well as a therapist thank you very much.

If you know anything about ASD, you'll know, we see the world very differently to neurotypicals...

I faked my way through school with my outstanding masking abilities until one day the teachers noticed I was actually completely illiterate.
I was thrown into a "special" class.
I looked around, at the kids in wheelchairs, and I thought to myself, oh helllll no, I don't belong here! I ain't "special" like these kids... Yes it was the early 2000's, before political correctness had the traction it has today. Please don't come at me. My school actually referred to it as the special class... Yes I know it is wrong and no I do not refer to people living with disabilities as "special"...

I quickly observed something no one was teaching me. Word and sentence structure. I photographically memorised the shapes and structure of words and sentences and that is how I finally learnt to read and write... it's what makes me the excellent proof reader and writer I am today, despite me having dyslexia.

I wasn't diagnosed with dyslexia until I was 19 years old... 25 until I received my ASD diagnosis... And everything made sense in my life after that. I struggled in my first year and second year of uni, I wish I knew what I know now, I'd probably be doing my master's with a full scholarship.

The education system failed me. So much so, I dropped out in year 8 of high school, because no one knew about learning disabilities back then, and I was unsupported.

Everyone always said I was super smart, but it was wasted, because I didn't have the ability to apply myself academically... Boy did that motivate me to prove them wrong!

How is it that I have these "disabilities"... And I'm a Year 8 drop out??

But I now have a science degree??

I am completing my master's??

My GPA is now amazing?

And that PhD dream might actually become a reality...???

Because I noticed the pattern of information! The same way I taught myself how to read and write.

I also learnt the tricks of institutionalised learning...

And I now know how to "cheat" their flawed system... Want to know how to get banging grades with minimal effort too???... Let me teach you the tricks of the trade!!!

No we won't actually be cheating... Academic integrity is a passion of mine...

However, it'll almost feel like you're cheating... I believe in working smarter not harder. Especially when it comes to this uni garbage.

I'll teach you the things that the teachers won't. Like assessment break down, academic writing, and referencing. I'll teach you how to write amazing introductions, abstracts, and conclusions. I'll also teach you how to write for Psychology. You'll be writing perfect essays, lab reports, literature reviews, and case studies before you know it...

Once you master these techniques... Everything else comes easily so you can concentrate on actually learning...

I can also give you exam study tips and teach you the tricks of the trade when it comes to information retention and retrieval.
I can also teach you how to cram like a pro, if that's your style, and you're a last minute procrastinator like me...

I'll teach you how to process information and how to prioritise things that are important to learn and things that you're better off skipping...

Nope you do NOT have to read everything they give you, and NO you do NOT have to attend your lectures if they're non complusory and recorded...

Those recordings come with lecture slides... Those slides are your notes... And those recordings... Yes you can download just the audio and listen to them in your head phones when you're going to sleep at night... They also speed up to double speed so you cut that lecture time in half!

These are just some of my many tricks that I can teach you and will make your life easier!!! Come with me on this journey and let's make uni life fun like it should be!!!
