About Gill
Born and raised in Dallas, I now reside in the Appalachians of our beautiful Southeast. With a deep love for literature, philosophy, and tennis, I attended college on an athletic scholarship, where I completed a degree in English followed by a master’s degree in teaching.
Two years after graduating, I have one year of experience teaching high school English behind me. As tremendous an experience as that was, I wanted to do something different, so I now work full-time as a carpenter, building and remodeling homes.
Even so, I still have a deep passion for teaching literature and writing. I want to foster a sense of intrigue in students who wish to study English and become better readers, thinkers, critics, and writers.
If you do choose to study with me, be prepared to read your heart out, write with conviction, and understand that part of the journey of education, studying literature, is recognizing that the ultimate goal is to seek Truth.

How do you “learn” literature? How do you “learn” to write? All the best English teachers I have ever had asked these questions.
With a focus on exploring the historical and philosophical foundations of a text, I will ask questions and guide our lessons through this lens, allowing us to dive deep beneath the surface of the text. That will be our methodology.
Built on relational learning, our classroom will be a place where we work through books together. I will ask you questions, and you will ask me questions. We will practice different methods for approaching both literature and writing, whether academic or creative, so that you can become a better, more versatile communicator and thinker in this world.
