A function f has an inverse only if it is bijective.
Steps to find inverse:
1. Write y = f(x)
2. Swap x and y
3. Solve for y
4. Replace y with f⁻¹(x)
Example:
y = 2x + 3 → swap → x = 2y + 3 → y = (x − 3)/2
Thus, f⁻¹(x) = (x − 3)/2
