Having many years of teaching experience in Health & Wellness Psychology with diverse student populations, the development of my teaching philosophy continues to evolve and grow within the learning environment. The demands in terms of time investment for the preparation and delivery of the course material are equally important in online and traditional classrooms. The instructor serves as both a facilitator and a teacher, and it is important to establish a balance between these multidimensional responsibilities. The online instructor holds the key for creating a positive tone and atmosphere from the outset of the course. Over time, I have cultivated techniques to promote student engagement and motivate students to participate in meaningful dialogue. By maintaining an active presence throughout the duration of the term, a sense of community is promoted among the course participants. Since the curriculum may be standardized, instructors should help students explore new concepts and provide real world examples to supplement the course content. The overall goal is to utilize a supportive but challenging approach, in conjunction with high-quality instruction that achieves the intended learning outcomes.
