About Jean rose

"Hello! I'm Jean rose Gocotano, and I'm so excited to be your teacher!

I grew up in Digos city, Davao del sur Philippines — a place where family, kindness, and hard work are at the heart of everything we do. Growing up, I was always the one who loved explaining things to my classmates — whether it was helping them understand a lesson or practicing for a presentation. That's when I realized: my greatest joy comes from helping others grow.

In my own life, I've learned that making mistakes is part of learning — and that's exactly how I teach. I'm patient because I know what it's like to learn something new. I've had to step out of my comfort zone too — learning new skills, practicing daily, and never giving up even when it was hard. That experience shapes how I teach you: we'll go at your pace, celebrate your progress, and turn every challenge into progress.

When I'm not teaching, I love reading, cooking, hiking, playing guitar, learning new languages— and I'd love to hear about your hobbies too! My goal isn't just to teach you — it's to inspire confidence and show you that you CAN do it. Let's learn together! "

About the lesson

Reading English isn't just saying words — it means understanding the message, connecting ideas, and building meaning from text.

1. The 3 Core Skills of Reading
• Decoding → Matching letters to sounds; pronouncing words correctly • Fluency → Reading smoothly, at a good pace, with proper expression
• Comprehension → Understanding what the text means; answering "who, what, where, when, why, how"

2. Knowledge Points to Explain
• Sight Words — Common words you recognize instantly (the, and, is, you) → no need to sound out
• Context Clues → Use surrounding words to figure out unknown words
• Main Idea → What the story/passage is MOSTLY about (usually 1 sentence)
• Supporting Details → Facts/examples that explain the main idea
• Inference → "Reading between the lines" — what the author means but doesn't say directly
• Text Features → Titles, headings, pictures, bold words — help you find information fast
