About Lalah
Hello my name is Lalah I'm a junior high school student, and I maintain an A average in AP English. I'm also a writing tutor for four students at my school. I started tutoring because I understand the challenges of not being the top student. I wasn't always academically strong, but with the help of tutors, I became the strong student I am today. I want to help students who are like me and support them in achieving their academic goals.

The most common issue I see with my students is that they don't take the time to read through their work. Every student learns differently, and most people don't understand that. As a student growing up, I suffered from dyslexia, and getting help took time, but with a lot of hard work, it paid off. Now I'm extremely confident. With the right help and someone who actually cares about bettering the student, they can go far.
Brainstorming: Encourage students to generate ideas freely, using techniques like mind mapping or listing.
Freewriting: Have students write continuously for a set period, without worrying about grammar or spelling.
Journaling: Promote daily writing to develop fluency and explore personal thoughts and experiences.
Outlining: Guide students in creating a basic structure for their writing, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion.
Writing Prompts: Provide specific prompts or questions to stimulate writing ideas.
Model Writing: Demonstrate the writing process by writing aloud or sharing your own writing.
Self-Assessment: Encourage students to evaluate their own writing using checklists or rubrics.
Teacher Feedback: Offer specific suggestions for improvement, focusing on strengths and areas for growth.
Proofreading: Teach students to check for errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
Sentence Combining: Encourage students to combine short, simple sentences into more complex sentences.
Word Choice: Help students choose precise and vivid language to enhance their writing.
Positive Reinforcement: Celebrate students' accomplishments and provide encouragement to motivate them to continue writing.
Lesson Plan: Writing a Narrative Essay
Objective: Students will be able to write a narrative essay that tells a personal story, engaging the reader with vivid details and strong organization.
Materials:
Writing paper
Pens/pencils
Highlighters
Introduction
Briefly discuss the elements of a narrative essay: plot, characters, setting, and theme.
Share a personal anecdote to model the writing process.
Prewriting
Have students brainstorm a personal story they would like to share.
Encourage them to jot down key details, such as characters, setting, and major events.
Drafting
Guide students in creating a basic outline for their essay.
Have students write a first draft, focusing on getting their ideas down on paper.
Review common grammar and punctuation errors.
Have students proofread their essays and make corrections.
Offer positive feedback and encouragement.When you do this it gives students a sense of accomplishment and reassurance they are doing a good job.
