the only thing I notice with every student who struggles in math is that they’re uncomfortable expressing what they’re confused about. My goal is to make my student feel comfortable thinking out loud and expressing what they don’t know. Usually, the student will feel “dumb” for not understanding something, which causes them to shelter themselves. I want to make clear to my students that they can never ask me a “dumb” question. I remember when I struggled with math it was always because I was afraid of being wrong and embarrassing myself. My goal is to eliminate this fear in the classroom.
