About Shiwaanee

I am a Biological Sciences student with a strong academic foundation (international school background), having successfully completed Cambridge A Levels and earned admission to several of the most prestigious universities in the United States. I am currently enrolled as a freshman at Carnegie Mellon University, Pennsylvania which has an acceptance rate of 11%.

Having navigated competitive academic pathways myself, I understand the challenges students face and enjoy helping them build both confidence and clarity in their learning. I have hands-on teaching experience supporting students from diverse learning backgrounds. As a Special Needs Educator and an accredited Mental Health First Aider, I prioritize creating a safe, encouraging learning environment where students feel supported and understood. I have worked extensively with students with special educational needs, including autism, learning disabilities, ADHD, and global developmental delay (GDD), adapting my teaching methods to suit each learner’s pace and strengths.

As a trained counselor, I have spoken with students in school settings to help them manage academic pressure, improve self-confidence, and develop resilience. I am also a debate and public speaking coach, helping students communicate clearly, think critically, and express themselves with confidence—skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

I am a well-rounded educator who has competed and won at international levels across STEM and debate, including representing Malaysia as a national finalist at the prestigious Stockholm Junior Water Prize. These experiences allow me to inspire students by showing them what is possible with curiosity, discipline, and the right guidance. My goal as a tutor is not only to help students excel academically, but to empower them to believe in their own potential.

About the lesson

As a tutor specializing in English, Math and Science, I use a structured yet flexible teaching approach designed to maximize both engagement and progress. My lessons incorporate regular monthly quizzes and spelling bees to reinforce learning, track improvement, and build confidence in a low-pressure environment. Sessions are highly interactive and engaging, encouraging active participation rather than passive learning.

I design and use self-made learning materials and customized worksheets tailored to each student’s level, goals, and learning style. Students are also taught practical tips, strategies, and memory techniques that go beyond the syllabus, helping them study more effectively and independently. Most importantly, my teaching methods are individually adapted to suit each student’s unique needs, ensuring personalized support and measurable academic growth.
