About Adam-James
Hello! I’m Adam-James (AJ), a dedicated second-year LLB student at the Open University with a passion for navigating the complexities of the legal system. My academic journey has been defined by resilience; despite moving schools frequently due to being in foster care, I maintained a consistent A*–A average. I achieved an A in A-Level Law and Psychology* an A in History, and a B in Politics, alongside 12 GCSEs at A* –B grades. I also earned an A• for my Level 3 EPQ where I conducted a deep-dive comparative study into child welfare legislation between England, Wales, and New Zealand.
Experience and Neurodiversity
I am committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and professional space for students from all backgrounds. Having Aspergers myself, I have a first-hand understanding of the challenges neurodivergent students face in mainstream education. My tutoring background is extensive:
• Five years of experience tutoring high-achieving neurodivergent GCSE and AS-Level students who struggled within traditional school systems.
• Three years of volunteering with neurodiverse Sea Cadets (aged 11–16), helping them build confidence and practical skills.
• A "fluid and adaptive" approach that focuses on patience and understanding to ensure every student reaches their full potential.
Legal Specialisms and Future Goals
I have developed a strong working knowledge of almost all aspects of law, with degree-level expertise in Criminal, Tort, Negligence, Family, Child, and Evidence law. I also maintain a high-level understanding of Commercial, Maritime, Animal, International, and Trademark law.
My career goal is to become a child-focused family lawyer. Following my LLB, I plan to complete a Masters in Child Psychology and Biopsychology before eventually emigrating to New Zealand to work as a "Lawyer for the Child." Teaching allows me to sharpen the communication and analytical skills that will be vital for my future in the courtroom.
About Me
I have lived all over the UK—from Bournemouth and Belfast to Liverpool and Edinburgh—and I currently call Aldershot, Hampshire home. I believe education should be collaborative and engaging, and I enjoy building strong relationships with my students.
Outside of my studies and tutoring, I am a very active person who enjoys:
• Fantasy-based board games (Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, and Risk).
• Sailing, travelling, and reading.
• Country music.

With eight years of consistent tutoring experience, I bring a dynamic and highly personalised approach to legal education.
As a second-year LLB student with an A* in A-Level Law and an A* in my Level 3 EPQ, I combine recent academic success with a wealth of effective notes and practical advice to help students excel in essay-based subjects.
My Methodology and Approach
My teaching style is fluid and adaptive, rooted in the belief that there is no such thing as a silly question. I believe that understanding law is not about memorising endless cases or jargon; it is about grasping core doctrines and learning how to apply them confidently.
To ensure our time is used efficiently, I request a basic learning profile prior to our first session. This allows me to align our lessons with your specific syllabus requirements, exam board, and any particular topics you wish to cover. During our online sessions, we will focus on:
• Substantive Knowledge: Breaking down complex legal principles and case law into clear, manageable steps.
• Analytical Writing: Mastering essay structure and legal reasoning using proven methods such as IRAC and RACER.
• Exam Technique: Developing the precision and critical thinking skills required to satisfy specific mark schemes.
Bespoke Planning and Resources
I am committed to providing a structured environment that fosters steady improvement. My support extends beyond the duration of our sessions:
• Personalised Lesson Plans: Prior to our first session, I prepare a bespoke plan tailored to your needs, whether for a single session or a multi-session block. I continuously update this throughout our time together and provide copies to the student and/or parents or guardians.
• Session Summaries: After every lesson, I create a concise summary of what was covered and send this to the student and parents or guardians to track progress.
• Custom Materials: I provide my own handouts, worksheets, and revision guides appropriate for the lesson topics to ensure you are fully prepared for your deadlines.
Who the Lessons are For
My lessons are primarily targeted at teenagers and young adults wishing to strengthen their academic performance. This includes:
• GCSE and A-Level Law Students: Comprehensive support for core modules including Criminal Law, Tort, and Contract Law.
• LNAT Candidates: Having achieved a score of 38/42 (significantly above the national average), I offer specialised coaching for both the multiple-choice and essay components of the LNAT.
• Enthusiastic Learners: I am happy to work with anyone wishing to deepen their understanding of legal research or the English Legal System.
Lesson Structure and Logistics
All teaching is conducted online, allowing for a flexible and interactive learning experience. Sessions are typically one hour long, but can be adjusted to suit your specific goals:
• 30 to 45 Minutes: Ideal for quick check-ins or specific problem questions.
• 1 to 1.5 Hours: The standard duration for teaching new content and answering questions.
• 2 Hours: Recommended for intensive essay workshops or deep-dive revision blocks.
I aim to foster a stimulating environment where you can build the confidence necessary to achieve outstanding results.
