About Dana
I have been teaching middle school math for 5 years now, as well as an Algebra 1 credit recovery course over the summer. During this time I have taught in two different counties, at 3 different schools, and spent a year teaching math in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Teaching at many different schools has allowed me to build my toolbox of resources and gain experience teaching in environments with students from different backgrounds and individual needs.
I attended Longwood University and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education K-6 and a Master's degree in Middle School Mathematics and Algebra 1. Currently, I hold a Virginia Professional Teaching License in Elementary Education K-6, Middle School Mathematics, and Algebra 1. In the past, I have tutored students of all ages including elementary students, middle school students, and a few high school students.

My true passion is to help children learn and become confident in mathematics! While teaching, I maintain an upbeat and energetic personality to keep students motivated and engaged. I like to make sure to connect the content I am teaching to real-life scenarios so that the math seems less abstract for students. Furthermore, I provide positive feedback during my lessons while also sustaining an open environment so that students feel comfortable with asking questions. My goal is to change the mindset of students so they truly believe they are capable and confident in their math abilities while also engaging them in the material so that they have a deep conceptual understanding of the content.
