About Katelyn
I am an aspiring creative writer who has just landed a contracted English teaching position at Corcoran High School (Corcoran, CA) for the upcoming 2018/19 school year. I have a BA in English Education with an emphasis in Creative Writing. My mission as an educator is to make my lesson plans all inclusive and relative to students' lives. I want my students to feel safe and valued in the learning environment I create for them.

Some say that student motivation to learn has dwindled in the past years and students from this generation lack the desire to learn. I disagree, I believe it is not the students who are at fault for creating this kind of learning atmosphere but the teachers instead. Educating students is all about execution. Students often times are uninterested in texts because they are stale and from hundreds of years in the past, in order to revitalize these sorts of texts, my job as their teacher is to make it relative to their lives, help them to understand that what they are learning will follow them into adulthood and can be useful in all cycles of life. It is also important for me to create situations where learning is student focused and can cater to different learning style preferences than purely a lecturing teaching style. In my classroom, students will be able to learn through kinetic, tactile, audio and visual activities.
