About Sonya
I have experience as a swim instructor across multiple levels from novice to advanced, and with teaching and helping many of my own classmates. Those roles have taught me to break down concepts to foster lasting understanding and to work with different students’ learning styles, as well as to encourage them throughout. I will always accommodate for your educational needs and am very patient. I am glad to guide students step-by-step and build their skills and confidence in their subject.

As a high school senior, I know exactly what it is like to have stressful classes. Having earned a 5 on the AP Chemistry exam and an A in Honors Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry, I also know what concepts are often difficult and how to work through them step by step. I am willing to teach high school students taking these topics as well as undergraduates taking college chemistry. I work with students to learn things by building concepts from the ground up. I assess difficulties the student is having or topics they are learning and backtrack to the foundational skills needed for that topic before helping them learn it step-by-step, whether through explanation, practice problems, visuals, or a structured conversation. For students taking AP Chemistry and/or preparing for the exam, I will teach everything aligned to the College Board curriculum as well as discuss test-taking strategies and answer formats for specific topics. By teaching deep understanding I aim to make it easier to retain material for class. I am understanding and will work at your pace as well.
