I usually structure the lesson in the following way:
we agree, via email or message, on the topic so as to be able to prepare all the material for the lesson;
in case of help with homework, the material will be an additional aid for the exercise;
as regards the subjects of study, I can make the summaries before the lesson and then review them together or they can be done together during the lessons;
if the need is to memorize, the best method is agreed according to need;
